Cornerstone Civil Contractors, LLC. was formed in August of 2004 by Edmund H. Colgrove, Jr. with a conviction and vision to be a foundation for our civil construction industry.

Prior to forming Cornerstone, with a life long natural bent toward civil work, Edmund pursued and completed a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama and worked 5 years in the civil construction field building and managing landfill construction, municipal/utility, and site preparation projects throughout the southeast region of our country.  With an unnatural desire to glorify God in his vocation, Cornerstone was conceived.

After several years of working together prior to and after the formation of Cornerstone, and building a strong working relationship and, more importantly, a strong friendship, Edmund joined forces with Jeff Edwards in July 2006 to create the current ownership structure that is Cornerstone today.  Growing up as the son of one of the first superintendents for Mr. Billy Newell, founder of the widely respected W. S. Newell & Sons, Inc., Jeff has spent his life in the civil construction industry.  From helping his father and brothers as a kid operating equipment and laying pipe, to becoming a superintendent himself for the Newell's on many large ALDOT and MDOT interstate construction projects, to owning his own earthwork and grading services company, Jeff has gained a massive amount of experience building work in our industry.

Together, Edmund and Jeff have worked tirelessly to carry out the vision of our company.  With their leadership over these years, they have constructed hundreds of projects, both large and small, for local municipalities, educational institutions, church organizations, state departments of transportation, governmental agencies, industry, private developers/entities, and general contractors for roadways, underground infrastructure, and site preparations and hardscapes of schools, churches, industry expansions, and commercial developments of the future.  Edmund and Jeff have built a foundation of strong and true construction principles, working within a safe working environment for our construction family, and continually caring for and growing that family with a concern for much more than the bottom line.

The cornerstone of a structure is the foundation stone that sets the reference for the rest of that structure. The orientation, direction, strength and security is determined by that foundation stone...the cornerstone.

Continuing on the conviction and vision of our founder, we at Cornerstone understand the importance of the foundation and seek to be a foundation.  Not just a foundation for a project, but a foundation for a future.  Our purpose isn't to build work, our purpose is to build a future.  Not a future for Cornerstone the company, we trust God in that.  Our purpose is to build a future for each other and each others' families.  Our purpose is to build a future for the lives and families of those we are building work for and for those who will benefit from the completion of that work in the future.  And all the while our purpose is to do this in a manner that glorifies God.

And we understand in order to be a foundation, we have to have a foundation.  And by the grace of God, we know the only foundation stone to build on is the chief foundation stone, the Chief Cornerstone, the Christ - Jesus.

Because of Him, we have been blessed to be the foundation of many projects and numerous families since our founding.  And if that lasts for just one more day, it will be…Because of Him.

We Are Cornerstone…The Foundation to Build On.
